Everyone is Clothed in Stories

The clothes you wear, your hair-style, the types of music you like, and the ways you choose to express yourself all tell a story about who you are to the rest of the world. Even your body shape/size/color was inherited through a long lineage of people from different parts of the world. Your ancestors diet, belief systems, and environment helped to shape the way you look and perceive the world. Each of us embodies many stories wether we are aware of what these stories are or not.

Human beings are different from most animals because of a part in our brain called the frontal cortex. This part of the brain allows us to consciously observe, and choose the environment and influences that shape who we are and who we will become. Learn the stories that make you who you are, and create new stories of who you want to be.

Borrowing from ancient and modern traditions of ceremonial expression, often called anthropology of the body, this video shows how Giggly Sprout and Gumbo Wobbly are sewn together with stories, using beads, sequins, and colorful fabrics. Giggly Sprout and Gumbo Wobbly are an expression of oral tradition in that they embody the stories that need to be told and remembered.

Your costumes ARE stories … rich, compelling ones. But so few know them until you tell about it, as you have in this film. TREMENDOUS! I love all the media you are using to make your messages relevant to all ages and backgrounds. You’re amazing!

I had the privilege of seeing Gumbo Wobbly and Giggly Sprout creating some of their beaded costumes. I was in awe! Each bead was carefully sewn into an over-all design, symbols expressing dreams of our planet. Really amazing! I felt changed by them and their stories.
