Off in the clouds, there is a glorious castle called The Giggle-Bubble
Glass Castle. This is where Giggly Sprout and Gumbo Wobbly are when
they aren't touring the land. Giggly paints portraits in a room
of the castle that overlooks a small creek. Though she knows the
stories of these famous clowns' lives intimately, she rarely talks
about the portraits. Conversely, Gumbo knows very little about these
characters, but has a lot to say about their lives. In rare recordings
of Gumbo telling these stories, we have transcribed excerpts to
accompany the gallery tour. Gumbo's words appear in white below
each painting.
"Well this here is 'ol Top-Hat, he used
to live in my grandpappys village until he got kicked out for...
oh that's another story.Well Mr. Top-Hat is loved and hated in
arid desert lands around the world. Ya' see how happy he looks
in all that rain, yeah, well that just so happens to be the rain
that is supposed to be falling on some arid place. Top-Hat means
no harm, he just gets carried away in his own world. Many people
hate him and think that his ignorance and greed is causing a drought
to happen on their land. Top-Hat loves to visit all the lands on
Earth and play with children, stomping in puddles and making mud.
His favorite place is the arid land, because people get especially
excited when it rains. Unfortunately, he doesn't go to arid places
very often because people hate him, and he'd rather stay happy
in his own little rainy bubble. Now enough of that, I want to tell
you what he did to get kicked out of Grandpappys village..."
The tape got eaten in the dictaphone and we here at Living Folklore
have sent it to a specialist to see if the story can be saved.
